Random Acts - Farmer's Market Season Opening (May 18th)

          "The expression "pay it forward" is used to describe the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead." 

The idea that by "passing it on" to three people, they in turn will "pass it on" to three more people and on and on and on......

 

 The idea that one good act of kindness in turn reciprocates further acts as a consequence is an inspiring way to begin a season of natural goodness at the Gravenhurst Farmers' Market starting this May 18th in the Muskoka Wharf Events Field. 

I thought it would be best  to take this idea and transfer it into one that will assist an unknowing mother in need in the town of Gravenhurst.  Individuals can submit a name of a deserving mother  who will be chosen to receive a  wOOly Owl Care Package which  includes a wOOly sOaker, Reusable Organic Nursing Pads and even a calming, herb-filled wOOly Owl. 

 Please take the time now to think about this particular Momma-in-need of some natural loven (of a wOOly kind:) and bring her name to my tent.

How to Wash or Lanolize wOOly Diaper Covers and wOOly Diaper Wraps

Lanolin is the natural waterproofing on sheep's wool. This natural lanolin is what makes the wool "waterproof". Wool absorbs about 30% of it's weight without feeling wet, which means "overspill" gets absorbed by the wool and, ta da! No leaks. Just let the wool air dry between uses, and you can go for weeks between washings. Wool doesn't get smelly like synthetics do. The lanolin on the wool cover gets used up by the urine as the cover air dries, so after a while you will need to restore lanolin to the cover to maintain the cover's effectiveness. Getting lanolin back onto the wool is call Lanolizing.

To wash a wool cover without lanolizing, follow the same instructions but omit the lanolin.

1. If there is poop on the cover, use some olive oil bar soap (Kiss My Face makes some) and gently wash it out prior to lanolizing. If you don't have olive oil bar soap, Ivory bar soap will work fine. Do not use Woolite or other commercial wool detergents on diaper covers. (Try to use only unscented natural or organic soaps to ensure the most natural washing for your covers.)
2. Melt 1/4 inch of Lansinoh Lanolin in hot water. Add 1/2 cap-ful of Eucalan Woolwash to the hot water. Mix to break up and mix in the Lanolin. Fill sink. The water should be room temperature. Not ice cold, and not too hot. 
3. For wOOly diaper wraps, affix the Velcro washing safe tabs to ensure the integrity of the Velcro through washing
4. Place wool cover in sink and gently push cover under the water. 
5. Let it soak for about 15 minutes, flip over and turn inside out (if wOOly soaker) to ensure all surfaces are coated with lanolin.
6. After soaking, gently squeeze excess water out, then roll it between two towels to get even more moisture out. 
7. Let it dry COMPLETELY for about 24 hours.

Etsy.com  is seriously an intense business venture. I was happily enjoying my New Year's bliss when I began to notice that EVERY OTHER SELLER out there had already tagged their items appropriately for Valentine’s Day! That’s seriously calling the Early bird...early. Anyway, all of this got me inspired to re-do all of my photos and make my items look and feel like those candy hearts that say “I love you," “sweetheart,” and "Darling up-cycled handmade wOOly things!!"

I have three items to address in this addition of all things wOOly:
